My mother, who's an avid spinner swears that conkers keep the moths at bay! I can't vouch for them myself but seeing as it's now conker season, I reckon it might be worth collecting a few and distributing them amongst your wool/fabric stashes? At least they're free and don't smell all fusty!
ReplyDeleteKate - who thankfully is no longer doing laptop cold turkey!
Put your wool into your fredge. for a week or a month.
ReplyDeleteI like also to do some soap or lavendor into my closet.
Some years ago i had the same proble like you. I keep my fingers crossedfor you.
I had the same when a load of black binbags were brought down from the loft. I was sooooo cross! Have heard that putting yarn in freezer sorts it but can't vouch for it. I just got rid of all the pure wool - wanted to weep!
ReplyDeleteSeems like there's. a bit of that going around...critters in our supplies.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any remedy, sorry.
i'm sure it has nothing to do with our housekeeping either!
I'm still on vacatoon with my folks back east so that's why you haven't heard much from me lately.

I've heard that lavender keeps them away but I have never tried it myself:)
ReplyDeleteIf you scour the raw wool before storing it -- in the future, that is -- that should take care of the moth problem. Also, storing it in something breathable, like a pillowcase. In my experience, though, once moths are in wool, it's best to throw out that batch. Because it isn't just the moths themselves, it's the little worms that become moths, and the eggs that become worms...
ReplyDeleteCedar wood balls, apparently, not sure where you get them, tho. I like your sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteReally dont know Lorna but ive had alot of moths around this year x
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest herbs too, or hebal soaps as well. Tansy is good for some insects don't know about ,moths, mugwort too.....xox Corrine
